Manufacture Piaget 1290P Movement

Designed around the 1200P movement - the world's thinnest automatic movement - the 1290P automatic minute repeater movement measures a mere 4.8 mm thick, a record for thinness in its class. Operating the sliding bolt at 9 o'clock triggers the minute repeater function that indicates the time by sounds, generated by the vibrations of a gong struck by hammers. These were developed in steel for an optimum trade-off between stability and weight. The gong has been designed in one piece to allow better transmission of vibrations - and therefore sound - through the cushion-shaped movement and case. The case was hollowed out to a maximum to provide the best possible resonance.
